Getting Started

What is The Morning Drop?

The Morning Drop is Melbourne's premier sober morning community. We host monthly events that combine fitness, music, and mindful living - from sunrise runs to morning raves, yoga sessions, and community walks. It's for anyone looking to start their day with energy, connection, and purpose.

Do I need to be sober to join?

Not at all! While our events are alcohol-free, they're open to everyone - whether you're sober, sober-curious, taking a break from drinking, or simply prefer morning activities without alcohol. We welcome all levels of sobriety and curiosity.

What should I expect at my first event?

Expect a warm welcome! Our events typically start early (6:30-7:00 AM) and include a mix of movement, music, and socializing. We always have coffee partners and healthy breakfast options. Don't worry about fitness levels - our activities are inclusive and designed for all abilities.

How do I RSVP for events?

Simply visit our Events page, find the event you want to attend, and click the RSVP button. You'll need to create a free account first. We recommend RSVPing early as events can fill up quickly!

Events & Activities

What types of events do you host?

We host diverse monthly events including: sunrise runs around Melbourne's beautiful parks, morning yoga sessions, sober morning raves with DJs, community walks exploring Melbourne's laneways, mindfulness and meditation sessions, and cycling adventures along the Yarra Trail.

What fitness level do I need?

All fitness levels are welcome! Our runs have different pace groups, yoga is beginner-friendly, and walks are leisurely. We believe in moving together, not competing. Listen to your body and participate at your comfort level.

What time do events start?

Most events start between 6:30-7:00 AM to catch the beautiful Melbourne sunrise. We wrap up by 9:00 AM so you can continue with your day energized. Check individual event pages for specific times.

What should I bring?

Bring yourself and a positive attitude! We recommend: water bottle, comfortable activewear, runners/yoga mat (depending on activity), and a jacket for Melbourne's unpredictable weather. Coffee and light breakfast are usually provided by our partners.

What happens if it rains?

Melbourne weather is unpredictable! For outdoor events, we have covered backup venues or modified indoor activities. We'll update you via email and our event page if weather requires changes. When in doubt, we embrace the Melbourne motto: 'If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes!'

Community & Safety

Is there an age limit?

Our events are designed for adults 18+. However, we occasionally host family-friendly events on weekends. Check individual event descriptions for age requirements.

How do you ensure everyone feels welcome?

We have a comprehensive Code of Conduct that promotes inclusivity, respect, and safety. Our community ambassadors help newcomers feel welcome, and we maintain zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, or judgment about anyone's relationship with alcohol.

What safety measures are in place?

Safety is our priority. We have trained first aid volunteers at all events, share location details with emergency contacts, use well-lit public venues, and always have event marshals. For runs/rides, we use high-vis gear and follow traffic safety protocols.

Can I bring friends?

Absolutely! Friends make everything better. Just make sure each person RSVPs individually so we have accurate headcounts for coffee and food planning.

Membership & Costs

How much do events cost?

Most of our regular events are FREE! This includes runs, walks, yoga sessions, and morning raves. Occasionally we have special events (workshops, partner activations) that may have a small fee to cover costs. We believe movement and community should be accessible to everyone.

Do I need a membership?

No membership fees! Just create a free account to RSVP for events and join our community. This helps us send you updates about upcoming events and build our Melbourne morning community.

How are events funded?

We're supported by amazing local partners including coffee roasters, activewear brands, wellness businesses, and venues who believe in our mission. Their support keeps our events free and accessible.

Practical Questions

Where do events take place?

We rotate between Melbourne's most beautiful locations: Albert Park Lake, Royal Botanic Gardens, Brighton Beach, Yarra River trails, Queen Victoria Market, and various parks around the city. Each location is chosen for safety, accessibility, and that perfect sunrise view!

How do I get to event locations?

All our venues are accessible by public transport. We provide detailed directions including tram/train stops, parking information, and meeting points for each event. Many locations are also bike-friendly with secure parking.

What if I need to cancel my RSVP?

Life happens! You can cancel your RSVP up to 12 hours before an event through your account or by emailing us. This helps us manage numbers for coffee and food partners.

Can I volunteer or get involved?

We'd love your help! We're always looking for community ambassadors, event photographers, social media volunteers, and people passionate about building Melbourne's sober morning community. Email us at hello@themorningdrop.com.au to get involved.

How do I stay updated on new events?

Follow us on Instagram @the.morningdrop, join our email list through your account settings, and check our Events page regularly. We announce new events monthly and occasionally add special pop-up experiences.

Still have questions?

We're here to help! Our community team is always happy to chat about events, answer specific questions, or help you feel prepared for your first Morning Drop experience.
